Friday morning started bright and early as we loaded the drifting vehicles on the MonsterMob truck for departure to Johannesburg.  As we arrived in Johannesburg we had to resolve some car trouble at Peter from the Rock Raceway’s panel shop. We spend most of the time at the shop waiting for turbo’s to arrive to finish the necessary drift modifications. After a long wait the turbo’s arrived and the mechanics started to add it to the two Nissan Skyline.  After the mechanics fitted the new turbos we headed off to the Dyno Tune. We spend a couple of hours there with all the cars getting good results.  The following results were obtained :
Nissan Skyline R33 Ronnie – 335Kw / 585Nm
Nissan Skyline R33 Otto – 298Kw / 485Nm
Toyota 200SX – 172Kw / 284Nm

We spend a couple of hours there with all the cars getting good results.  The following results were obtained : Nissan Skyline R33 Ronnie – 335Kw / 585Nm Nissan Skyline R33 Otto – 298Kw / 485Nm Toyota 200SX – 172Kw / 284Nm Saterday Early morning light met us at the Rock Raceway as we started to prepare for the day that would probably go down in the record books.  With the interest growing we barred witness to one of the most successful drifting events that South Africa has seen thus far. The event had a record braking 34 drift car entries from South Africa, Mozambique and Lesotho making this international drift event a spectacle of action packed drifting. Zunaid on debut hit the track early, training to get the feel of drifting at the Rock Raceway.  With tenacious drifting, Zunaid look like a force to be reckoned with as the new debutant for MonsterMob’s drifteam. Every drift car had a chance to have a practice run leading up to the main event that was scheduled to start at four o clock the afternoon. As the event started participants had a chance to practice one round and then try to impress the judges with two rounds of drifting for a place in the 34 drift tandems. The competition was tough as the entrants got narrowed down to a mere sixteen drifters. Every drifter gave the crowd some ferocious tandem drifting, as we hit the halfway mark of the action packed elimination rounds During his debut Zunaid had a tough break spinning out during his second tandem race which ended his night on a high. Ronnie Graven on the other hand looked to be in top form but was eliminated by his car that broke down in the middle of his preliminary round. Otto was really on fire as he took down contestant after contestant during his tandem events. It really narrowed down to the semi finals were Otto had to meet an old friend ‘Peter’ of the Rock Raceway. This was really a showdown that had the crowed on the edge of their seats. As the tandem started you could feel the vibe as the announcer made it clear that a semi final can sometimes be even better that the final itself. Pushing their cars to the limit you could feel that this was one of those races that would probably be decided by skill. Otto showed it with precision as he powered his way to the finals, Peter was unlucky when he had a spin out because of the added pressure. The showdown at the final was just as intense as the previous semifinals as it came down to Otto vs Urnest. Otto maintained his standard and hit the track with power and drifted like the professional we have come to known.  At the end according to points Otto ran out victorious in one of the best drifting events that South Africa has ever seen.
